Marcus Thomas Chief Operating Officer Scott Chapin Promoted to President
July 28th 2023Cleveland, Ohio, July 27, 2023 – Scott Chapin, chief operating officer of independent agency Marcus Thomas for the past four years, has been elevated to President. He’s partnering with CEO Nancy Hill to run the agency that counts Dexcom, Ohio Lottery, Troy-Bilt, and Festival Foods as clients.
Hill, who just wrapped her first year at the helm, said having an operations expert as her partner will allow her to focus more externally to grow the agency. “Scott is a people-first leader whose marketing analytics, business planning and strategy acumen make all tides rise,” said Hill. “Creating strong and lasting relationships is among the hallmarks of Marcus Thomas and Scott has been essential to ensuring we have average client tenures of 13 years.”
Legacy relationships is something Chapin knows a bit about. He spent 12+ year at DigiKnow – a pioneering digital marketing and technology company with offices in Cleveland and Buenos Aires, Argentina – before joining Marcus Thomas as a digital strategist in November of 2011 when DigiKnow was acquired by the agency. From intern to partner, Chapin helped grow DigiKnow into a digital powerhouse that attracted Marcus Thomas and, ultimately, fuel-injected the agency’s digital and tech offerings upon its acquisition.
He guided clients on the best use of digital marketing further when named SVP, Analytics at Marcus Thomas in October of 2012, a role he held for nearly seven years. Named Partner in 2015, Chapin is a self-described servant leader and day-to-day operations expert whose passion for process and analysis has boosted the agency’s efficiency and overall performance. COO since May of 2019, Chapin has helped guide the agency in everything from day-to-day operations to what the agency of the future looks like.
With the head count in Latin America now at 90 and a U.S. footprint of nearly 200 people, Chapin has helped orchestrate Marcus Thomas’ global growth. As COO since 2019, Chapin helped navigate the company’s WFH policy during the pandemic and helped create and implement a successful hybrid workspace upon the return to the office.
“You could say I’m fiercely loyal as 12 years is the average amount of time I work at companies,” said Chapin. “I’ve been fortunate to be able to shape my roles so they’re always exciting. Working in new territories like digital in its infancy and the world during COVID-19, I’ve learned the importance of pivoting and pioneering. I’m excited for what’s now and next at Marcus Thomas as we continue to grow and thrive.”
Added Chapin: “Nancy is going to make sure clients are coming in and are happy while I work with internal teams to make sure their business is running well. It’s nice to get the title change for the role I organically started to assume in the past year. Clearing a path for others to do great work is my ambition.”
